We talk constantly about personal style, but not nearly enough about the actual skill behind it. Knowing what works on your body, understanding proportion, recognizing when something needs adjusting, and knowing when an outfit is finished. Getting dressed well was never just about having good clothes. There was knowledge attached to it.

𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐕𝐒 𝐅𝐀𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖𝐋𝐄𝐃𝐆𝐄...

Knowing what everyone is wearing is information. Knowing why something works is knowledge. One tells you what is happening in fashion. The other helps you decide what deserves a place in your own wardrobe. There is value in both, but they are not interchangeable.

𝐁𝐔𝐘𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐒𝐈𝐙𝐄.....

The fitting room should be the beginning of the conversation, not the end. Look beyond whether something zips or buttons. Where does the shoulder sit? How does the fabric fall? Are the pockets pulling? Is the sleeve ending in the right place? Does the trouser work with the shoe you intend to wear? The number on the tag cannot answer any of that.

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖𝐋𝐄𝐃𝐆𝐄 𝐖𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐓.....

There used to be a vocabulary around clothes that had very little to do with trends. Hemming. Pressing. Mending. Altering. Polishing. Knowing fabrics. Knowing what belonged at the cleaner and what could be washed at home. Knowing which bra changed the way a dress sat. None of this was glamorous. It was simply part of being dressed.

Maybe this is the distinction worth bringing back: clothes are what we own. Knowing clothes is what allows us to do something with them.

That knowledge changes how you shop, how you recognize quality, how long you keep something, how you style it and even how much you need to own.

And perhaps that’s why two women can own equally beautiful wardrobes and have completely different relationships with getting dressed.

Your personal style doesn’t stop at your closet, it follows you home. I bring the same eye I use for clothes into my home, looking for beautiful shapes, rich textures, thoughtful colors and the little details that make a space feel like me.

Because the things you live with can say just as much about your style as the things you wear.
